Sustainability Forum

Our eco celebrations will be concluded with a Sustainability Forum moderated by Gil Burgh of The Swich Contemporary Art Space and featuring guest speakers from local independent businesses discussing the topic 'living sustainably through our consumer choices'. Speakers have been asked to consider the following topics when gathering their thoughts about this broad topic:
  • living a sustainable life in a disposable culture
  • changing consumer perceptions to move to more sustainable alternatives
  • redefining the word 'alternative'
  • the aesthetics of sustainability
  • creating a sustainable identity for yourself
Our guest speakers for the forum are:
Amanda Robertson

Manda Robertso is the owner and head chef of fourthchild, a restaurant whose philosophy to food is best echoed by author and food commentator Michael Pollan, who states ‘don’t eat anything your great grandmother wouldn’t recognise as food’. Indeed, Manda’s love of food came from her own grandmother, with whom she spent many holidays in Oamaru, New Zealand baking and preparing meals with produce picked from their backyard garden. Manda envisions fourthchild as a sustainable restaurant, from the recycled, reclaimed and carbon neutral elements used during the build, to the organic, free range and local produce that graces its menu.

Nikki McKay
Nicki owns and operates Green Label Web Design web design which was established in February 2010 to provide web design, development and consultancy services to our clients using ethical business practices. Their specialty is providing sustainable, affordable, ethical and quality digital products with the environment in mind.

Nicki has over 10 years experience in the industry and has worked in various agencies and private organisations within the Brisbane area. Besides her talents in web design she is also an animal lover, yarn tangler, traveler, print maker and self confessed hand made dork.

Di Stitt
Di owns ethical fashion label One Colour. Since founding One Colour in 2007, Di Stitt has fused her love of Africa and fashion to create connections that support on-going, dignified employment for African people.

Di grew up in Sydney where she worked in corporate private enterprise as a PA.  In 1993 she moved to the Hunter Valley with her husband where she continued to work and raise their family, before they made Brisbane their home in 2006. One Colour emerged after several providential conversations with like-minded people and she made a start by selling a range of African grower-to-sewer t-shirts at local markets in Brisbane before moving into women’s day wear. Di and her family visited South Africa in 2007 and Di made her first trip to Kenya in 2008 to meet with her inspirational African producer partners.  She returns annually to Kenya to renew friendships and build sustainable partnerships through One Colour.
Her passion is to use the good gifts she has been given in Australia to tackle extreme poverty through the sale of ethically sourced, classically elegant clothing, unique accessories and gifts.
